Are you tired of a job and ready to begin a fulfilling career?
Do you feel stuck in a job you hate?
Are you tired of the same thing day after day?
Do you need help figuring out a meaningful next step in your career?
You’re not sure what the next step is in your career….
Sometimes it can be difficult and overwhelming to discern your professional path. Many people can feel “stuck” in a job, or feel like they are not reaching their potential. With life’s daily demands, it can be difficult to take time out to look at the “bigger picture.” However, it is imperative to evaluate if our professional lives are connecting with our personal values. Years of not connecting to our vocational values can leave us feeling empty or aimless in life. But there is another way…
My Approach to Career Counseling
One career theory is that because people change as they move through the life span, their career goals and needs do as well. As your grow and change as an individual, your needs and wants at work naturally change as well. You are not the only person who is in a job that felt exciting when it was new, but now it feels tedious.
In career counseling sessions, I work with each client to uncover how their personality style, lifestyle expectations, and values connect with their professional goals. I use evidenced-based techniques to guide the client in finding meaning and purpose for his or her work. We will take a close look at your values, goals and thoughts surrounding work. You’ll talk about your current frustrations, burn out or roadblocks. I often use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques where we take a close look at the thoughts that you automatically have every day and where those come from. We’ll examine if your mind falls victim to specific ways of thinking (mind traps) that keep you feeling stuck at work.
I can also help you identify and work on any underlying depression or anxiety that may be contributing to your job frustration. That said, everyone’s journey is a little bit different. We’ll work together to figure out what will help you find joy and fulfillment in your career. This can be a scary process, but it is also one that will have dividends for years to come.
Find a Path Forward
You don’t have to stay feeling stuck in your job or career. Through out work, you will make a plan for the future. Perhaps you’ll find joy in the job you have. Or maybe you’ll identify a new career you are ready to pursue. I believe that it’s imperative to shift from a job mentality to a vocation mentality. I will help you identify what that vocation mentality will look like in your own life. You’ll find a meaningful path forward and we’ll work together to help you find the motivation to take the first steps.
How would your life look different if you felt fulfilled by your job again? Are you ready to start creating a path forward?
Career Counseling for Recent College Graduates
As a longtime college counselor, I understand the fear that can come with college graduation. You’ve been looking forward to starting your career for so many years, but now you feel lost. Did you really choose the right career? What if you’re not any good at your chosen profession? Should you hold out for the “right” job or just get your foot in the floor? Or maybe you’re thinking about getting a job in a completely different field than what you went to school for…
It’s common for recent college graduates to come to individual therapy to help navigate the beginning of their career. I’ve provided individual counseling for college juniors and seniors as well as recent graduates for many years. I’m happy to help you figure out what direction you can take that is most true to your values while still meeting your basic needs.
