There is a lot of information out there about mindfulness, some of which can be pretty intimidating to think about incorporating into our daily lives. It can seem cumbersome to think about counting your breath, keeping your posture straight, and letting go of each thought that comes to your mind. Recently I have been practicing the simple task of what I call mindfully abiding. Every morning I take a walk in the park with my faithful beagle, Heidi. I save the last five minutes of our time for sitting down and taking notice (note) of all the sounds of nature. I close my eyes and listen to the cacophony of crickets chirping, birds signing, and frogs croaking. It is remarkable to experience the vast array of celebratory sounds that envelope us as we mindfully. As I open my eyes, I am more fully aware of all what is not visually perceived and I am flooded with gratitude. Sound and noise is commonly labeled as distraction; however, I invite you to take five minutes to transform the distraction into mindful abiding.
